Nigerian afrobeat star singer Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, widely known by his stage name Wizkid continues his rapid rise to the top of African music royalty.
The multiple award winning recording and performing artiste has added another award to his belt as he has bagged the song of the year at the Headies Awards 2022 with his chart topping tune, ‘Essence’ that features songstress, Tems.
Wizkid won the award for the Song Of The Year with his hit song ‘Essence’ at the 15th edition of the prestigious award ceremony held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in the United States Of America on Sunday, September 4 into the early hours of Monday, September 5.
Wizkid won 5 Headies tonight, he extends his record as the most awarded artist in Headies history, with a total of 20 awards

Wizkid was in tight competition with Patoranking’s ‘Celebrate Me’, Flavour’s ‘Doings’ featuring Phyno, Adekunle Gold’s ‘High’ featuring Davido, Fireboy DML’s ‘Peru’ alongside Lojay & Sarz ‘Monilisa’.
‘Essence’ has been a massive tune following its release in 2020 as it became the first song by a Nigerian artist to chart in the top 10 of the billboard hot 100, it also became one of the songs to be certified platinum in the US after selling over a million copies in US.
